MEXEM

MEXEM is not a standalone broker: it is an introducing broker of Interactive Brokers. You get the same infrastructure, the same markets and the same custody as IBKR — but with multilingual, local support and an easier start. In exchange for some higher fees in specific areas.

01Advantages

The advantages of MEXEM

MEXEM combines the power of Interactive Brokers' infrastructure with something the bare IBKR lacks: human, local support and an easy start. Here is why it stands out.

IBKR's infrastructure

The same 170+ markets, the same professional tools and the same custody at Interactive Brokers Ireland, with JP Morgan as custodian.

Multilingual, local support

Phone, local offices, even WhatsApp — human support in your language, not only English via ticket.

Low stock/ETF commissions

Competitive fees on stocks and European markets, with no inactivity fee and no minimum deposit.

Easy start + TradingView

Faster, simpler onboarding and official TradingView integration for charting and order execution.

Top user satisfaction

A 4.7/5 Trustpilot rating (400+ reviews) — among the highest in the industry, mainly thanks to support.

Flexibility & extras

Free transfer of your securities to another broker, a Copy Trader feature and automatic recurring investments (dollar-cost averaging).

02Structure & Regulation

Most important: what exactly MEXEM is

Before anything else, you need to understand the structure — because it changes everything. MEXEM is an introducing broker of Interactive Brokers. A simple analogy: if IBKR is the airline, MEXEM is the local agency that books your ticket and serves you in your language — but the aircraft (execution, clearing, custody of your money) belongs to IBKR.

Execution, clearing & custody of your money

In simple terms: when you open a MEXEM account, your money and stocks are not held at MEXEM — they sit at Interactive Brokers Ireland (IBIE), with JP Morgan as custodian. MEXEM never touches your money; it simply manages the relationship with you. That is good news for safety, but it also means you add one more link to the chain.

03Safety & Investor Protection

How safe your money is

Because your assets sit at Interactive Brokers Ireland, you enjoy the same protection as a direct IBKR client. Your safety does not depend on the financial health of (the small) MEXEM, but on (the mighty) IBKR.

ICS scheme

As an IBIE client you are covered by the Irish Investor Compensation Scheme: 90% of the loss, up to €20,000, retail clients only, and only if the broker goes bankrupt.

Segregation & JP Morgan

Your funds are segregated daily and held in separate accounts with JP Morgan as custodian. For European investors, protection comes from the Interactive Brokers Ireland Investor Compensation Scheme, under IBIE's regulatory framework.

Behind MEXEM

Your safety is backed by Interactive Brokers — listed on NASDAQ, with a strong investment-grade S&P rating and equity of over $20B.

The honest picture: In terms of custody, there is no substantial difference between opening an account directly at IBKR or through MEXEM — your money ends up in the same place. The one real asterisk: you add MEXEM as a second counterparty. It is a new (2018), small, private company that does not publish financials like the listed IBKR — so it is less transparent. In practice this does not affect the safety of your funds (which are at IBKR), but it is one extra link worth keeping in mind. MEXEM has not received major fines or been involved in scandals.
04Costs & Fees

This is where it parts ways with IBKR

MEXEM largely copies IBKR's price list — but not everywhere. It is very competitive on stocks and ETFs, but significantly more expensive on margin and options. That is no accident: like most introducing brokers, it makes much of its revenue where the client pays the least attention.

Minimum deposit
0€ for an individual account. Margin requires $2,000 minimum capital.
US stocks & ETFs
$0.005 / share, minimum $1, maximum 2% of value. Note: this matches IBKR's more expensive 'Fixed' tier — not the cheaper 'Tiered' ($0.0035). Simply: 100 shares cost you ~$1.
European stocks
0.06% of value, minimum €1. Here it is genuinely cheap — small European markets cost very little.
Greek stocksAthens Stock Exchange
Available through the IBKR infrastructure, with the corresponding ATHEX commissions.
Currency conversion (FX)
0.005%, minimum €5 per conversion (for amounts up to ~€100,000 effectively a flat €5). Simply: for each EUR→USD conversion you pay at least €5 — so it pays to convert in larger batches, not a little each month.
Options
High. US options — on stocks, ETFs and indices alike — start from $2/contract (min $2), above the industry average.
Margin (borrowing)the big thorn
~14.3% in USD (Fed benchmark + markup) — among the highest in the industry. Simply: if you borrow to buy stocks, it costs nearly triple that of direct IBKR (~5-6%).
Futures
~$1 / contract (US indices) — low.
Deposit / Withdrawal
Free deposit. First withdrawal every 30 days is free; then ~€1 (SEPA) up to €8 (EUR wire). Bank transfer / Wise only — no cards or e-wallets.
Inactivity / management fee
0€. Also, free transfer of your securities to another broker (no per-position charge).
Market data
Free with delay; real-time with a monthly subscription per exchange (same as IBKR).
The 'smart money' takeaway: The fee profile reveals MEXEM's model — cheap on the basics (stocks/ETFs), expensive where the client does not look (margin, FX floor). So the smart approach: keep the benefits (local support, easy start), but avoid margin here (work with cash) and convert currency in large batches. That way you pay almost like a direct IBKR client, with local support on top.
05Products & Markets

One platform, the whole world

There is no compromise here: because it runs on IBKR, MEXEM gives you access to the same 170+ markets across 40+ countries, from the US and Europe to Asia and the Athens Stock Exchange.

Two things worth knowing: Beyond the classic products, MEXEM also gives access to CFDs. On top of that, it adds its own features the bare IBKR lacks — such as a Copy Trader feature (copying investors, like eToro) and automatic recurring investments for dollar-cost averaging.
06Platforms & Tools

The same IBKR tools — plus TradingView

Because it shares IBKR's infrastructure, the platforms are essentially identical. The big extra: official TradingView integration. The big minus: you do not get access to the simple 'IBKR Desktop', nor to MT4/MT5.

MEXEM Lite

Beginners

The simple mobile app (IBKR GlobalTrader rebranded). Clean interface, fractional shares — ideal for starting out.

MEXEM Pro / Mobile

Everyone

Full mobile app with advanced tools, charts and order types for managing on the go.

Client Portal & TradingView

Everyone

Manage from the browser, plus official TradingView connection for charting/execution — something many traders love.

MEXEM Desktop / TWS

Advanced

The Trader Workstation: 100+ order types, Risk Navigator, OptionTrader, Probability Lab. Extremely powerful, with a steep learning curve.

API

Developers

TWS / Client Portal / FIX API for automated strategies — same as IBKR.

07Support — the real edge

Why MEXEM exists

If you strip away everything else, the reason an introducing broker exists is one thing: support. Here MEXEM solves exactly IBKR's biggest weakness — impersonal, English-only support via ticket.

Multilingual & local

Local offices in the markets where it operates, with support in many languages and personal service — not just English.

Phone & WhatsApp

You talk to a person on the phone, even via WhatsApp — one of the very few brokers to offer it. Far more immediate than IBKR's ticket system.

User satisfaction

A 4.7/5 Trustpilot rating (400+ reviews) versus 3.5/5 for direct IBKR — a big gap, mainly thanks to support.

Why it matters for you: For an investor who is not comfortable in English, being able to speak to a person in your language — on the phone or WhatsApp — is the number one reason to prefer MEXEM. It solves exactly the biggest weakness of direct IBKR and makes the whole journey, from opening an account to your first trade, much simpler.
